The Inner Path of Photography

We yearn for the taste of the sacred…and through our cameras discover it, the world, and ourselves.

“Safe Haven” at Archway Gallery, Houston, TX Reception Saturday July 11

One would think that all would stay
snug in their homes in the midst of a blizzard

But there is magic in snowfall, power in the wind, mystery to be felt.

I found I must walk to the beach, drawn to the immense Silence.

The glow emerging of resting red tail lights
A single brave soul contemplating the ocean

We need not stay home to be safe in the vast wildness.

try to say what you see and feel and love and lose.

Photographer’s Note:

So early in the morning this was taken – when all were sleeping and the sun barely rising. I loved the quiet, the smell of salt air – water lapping softly, expansive sky. I saw and felt the roughness of the dunes, the trees that have weathered all.

How does one “try to say” – capture in an image – the wonder of being alive, immersed in beauty – Waking each day to deep feeling, vulnerability, love?

This is my offering. This is a start.

May an equivalent of this happen to you today as you go to work or whenever you are out and about – or perhaps you could make it happen for others?!

Wonderful experience, wonderful little video.

Inspiring Video – Louie Schwartzberg

Video: Louie Schwartzberg – “Gratitude”

I often bypass these videos because they are too “schmaltzy.” But a good friend sent this one to me, and, feeling the need of inspiration, I checked it out.

Louie Schwartzberg starts slowly, but the story he’s telling grew on me. I stayed with it, and once the old man he was filming began to talk, I was hooked.

The voice and sentiment of the old man’s narration is deep, beautiful, and with the enhancement of images and  music, effortlessly leads you to a true feeling state of gratitude.

A nice way to start the day –

Check it out…
