“The Inner Path of Photography”
“Each artist going in his own direction at some time walks on water.”
– Minor White
What is the inner experience of photography? Deep, spiritual, rarely discussed…it is what seduces us and send us out to shoot again and again. We yearn for the taste of the sacred…and through our cameras discover it, the world, and ourselves.
This class is for those who want to explore more deeply the intuitive, mystical part of their photography practice. Drawing on the tradition of the photographer Minor White, and using techniques and philosophies from psychology, Zen, and other contemplative and healing practices, we’ll come to understand more fully this silent experience, apply it to our art, and enhance the quality of both our photography and life.
Formlessness, resonance, the “still point”…choices, perfectionism, the “click,”…openness to experience, making art vs. being in the flow, embracing the creative process: these are some of the tools that we’ll explore.
We’ll see what keeps you from taking that shot you really want to take, define more clearly what you’re truly trying to express, and open up doors to full creative expression, bringing energy and more passion to your images as well as your life.
Class includes lecture, exposure to diverse photographic expressions & philosophy, meditative and other experiential, outside applications, shooting and sharing of photographs, portfolio reviews, muse inspiration and guidance, personal coaching to achieve the outer physical reflection of your inner vision and feeling.
This is not your typical photography class, but a gateway to a new, expansive experience of photography. If you’ve found yourself seduced by photography, going out to shoot again and again, yearning for that “fix” of going deeper and deeper in feeling and expression…this class is for you.
“You are the Artist of Your Life: Exploring Life Direction Through Photography” – Teens
Welcome to “You are the Artist of Your Life”, a new adventure in photography and living. This class is for teens only, who want to express themselves as photographers, as well as express who they really are each day. If you’re excited and curious about how to create your own unique photographs, as well as create an awesome life, this class is for you.
You’ll do many things in this class: learn secret techniques (that even many professional photographers don’t know about), explore different ways to shoot all kinds of photos, talk about artistic and life heroes, and have fun seeing the amazing, different ways that each person experiences and expresses their world.
I’ll teach you the magic of the creative process, and how to use it, in photography and each day of your life. You’ll be interviewing role models, taking portraits, writing hopes and dreams, and exploring who and what’s important to you, how many choices there are out there for work and play, and what things, now and in future, you really want to do in your own life. All while becoming a better photographer.
Your life can be fun and have substance. Let yourself call on the magic of photography and the possibilities of the world so you can be the artist of your life.
