Photoplay #1 – (An adventure & contest)

IN THE SPIRIT OF PLAY(see last post)

Can You come out to play today?
Come play with me in my new Inner Path Photography experience: “Photoplay.”

Find your child-like curiosity, drop your self-judgment, and enjoy the thrill that you get from simply making photographs. And do it this month shooting your feelings and experience of “Play.” Abstract, literal, manipulated, straight – whatever makes you feel playful or communicates your perspective of play – make a photograph.

That’s it! Play!
But wait!  There’s more…

Of course, the experience of connecting with “play,” exploring and expressing your feelings and vision through your photographs will be pleasure enough.

But hey, if you want to play even more, send me one of your “Play” photos, and now we’ve made it a real game. And weren’t many of our games as children sweetened by a prize?

PRIZES:

*    THREE-WEEK PHOTO WEB POSTING (All)

All photos sent to me will be posted on my website until September 15, 2012….for all the world to see and be inspired by, and for you to enjoy being a celebrity.

*    MINI-CONTEMPLATIONS CREATION (8 Winners)

Eight creative playmates will receive an Inner Path Photography mini-contemplation creation – I’m designing them now – a small meditative inspiration of photography and words.  This prize will affirm the ability you’ve shown to tap into your inner being and honor what you’ve found.

*    ONE HOUR WITH THE MUSE (GRAND PRIZE)

One magical creator will be crowned the “Ultimate Visionista or Visionistus of Play.”

In addition to being able to put this title on one’s resume, and to carry this feeling of royalty in your heart, you, joyful player, will deepen and expand your art and life as you revel in one of the following Inner Path Photography experiences with me (the Muse, of course):

    * Inner Path Photography Personal Intensive Session

    * Walks with the Muse

    * BeachWalk Talks

Evelyn Hofer – I love this woman’s work!

“Hilton Kramer once called Evelyn Hofer “the most famous unknown photographer in America,” a title she did not dispute. To her, the work was more important than the artist.” (David Gonzalez, “Evelyn Hofer, Reconsidered”)

A retrospective now at Danziger Gallery, New York.

My “I Dream of Galveston” images in Austin Gallery Show

This past Friday night, October 7, was the opening reception for The Gathering of Photographers juried show at Flatbed Press/O2 Gallery, a unique art space in Austin, Texas.

Pleased that four of my images from the series, “I Dream of Galveston” were chosen for the show, and looking forward to celebrating with the other photographers and seeing their work, I drove up for the evening from Houston.

What a nice surprise to find that my work had been selected for an “Honorable Mention” award – and playfully nicknamed by the jurors “Mighty Beach Series.”*

* They were fun, but don’t be fooled: they’re serious, and seriously accomplished:

Jurors included Pulitzer Prize winner Skeeter Hagler,  photojournalist Kevin Vandivier,  designer Kelley Toombs, and photographer/ Pulitzer Prize judge Gary Fong. (See summaries here)
A huge thank-you to all of my sponsors and supporters who helped me participate in this show – you know who you are – I appreciate you greatly!

The show will be hanging until November 4th. There’s a great diversity of images, themes, and photographers – Enjoy if you’re in the area –

All images from the show, 20″ x 24″ matted and framed, are also for sale – contact Flatbed Press Gallery or me for details…

Travel Photographer of the Year 2011 – Slideshow of Winners

Love this slideshow of winners of the  Travel Photographer of the Year Awards! The images are wonderful, plus the narration by Chris Coe, the Founder of the awards, is a nice addition.

The images will be exhibited at the Royal Geographic Society in London until 10 June 2011. Admission is free. Let me know if you go (or if you need a traveling companion)!

My favorites (in order as seen in the slideshow):

1. The work of Quintin Lake, who is from the UK. Snow and water images from Greenland, that are nearly mono-tone.  Clean, simple, beautiful. He is the winner in the “Amazing Places” category.

2. Jordi Cohen, Spain, the first image of his of a funeral in Haiti.

His use of angles, movement, and light enhances the emotion felt here and appeals to me. From the “Encounters” Porfolio entrants.

3.  Ethereal images of a monk in Bhutan, going down a corridor, by Richard Murai, USA.

I believe it’s hard to come up with original work from Bhutan, although very beautiful, much of the work today starts looking  the same to me.  These two images have an 0ther-worldliness about them that I enjoy – the light, the movement, the space are terrific.

Richard is the winner of the “World in Motion” category.

You can enter for 2012. Here’s the website.
