The Inner Path of Photography

We yearn for the taste of the sacred…and through our cameras discover it, the world, and ourselves.

“Begin Again”

Dramatic white and cream clouds rise in a dark blue sky, inspiring expansion and soulful feelings.

“Begin Again” is one of my favorite meditation phrases,
taken from the Buddhist practice.

It reminds us that each new year, each day, each moment
we are always free…

to recommit to what is most important to us
look to the future with positive anticipation
relax, allow for imperfection, and act again.

Breathe Deeply….

May you feel the grandeur of your Soul
now…and now…and now.

Begin Again.

A note from Heidi:

Hello, Kindred Spirits,

Yes, it’s been a while…and so nice to be back and sharing with you again.

Some have been following me on Instagram and Facebook, but if you’ve been away too…welcome back! I’m glad you’re here.

This summer I was immersed in many beautiful places – living and working, exploring, creating, meeting new people, reconnecting with those I’ve loved for years. And enjoying the usual unexpected adventures, of course!

St. Petersburg, FL and Taos, NM were my main homes; Durham, NC, Houston, TX and New York, NY (with stops along the way, yes, I was driving!) added spice.

And now, as I write this, I’m back for my fifth winter in beautiful Cape Cod (Eastham), Massachusetts. It’s nice to settle in…

Soon you’ll see my new website, with more inspiration, beauty and experiences for you…the culmination of thoughts and dreams from a summer on the road.

But today, I send you greetings from the heart.

May you take some time to breathe, rest, enjoy the beauty that surrounds you.

I’m holding the glory of love for you…May you receive it.

Heidi

I thank you

“Photography for me is not looking, it’s feeling.

If you can’t feel what you’re looking at,
then you’re never going to get others
to feel anything when they look at your pictures.”

                    – Don McCullin

My work in transformational counseling and the Inner Path of Photography is born from an ever-present desire to honor the spirit within. It gives me great pleasure to help others to discover what is deep inside; to honor, love, and nourish it, and then express one’s unique, amazing soul in photography and life.

When we love a photograph, either as an admirer or its creator, we allow ourselves to feel. Without words, without explanation, we can resonate with an essence that is too often missed in our day to day living. The jolt of recognition, the intrigue of a new awareness, an invitation to explore more, or purely a silent, sacred connection to our hearts: all call to us…and we are seduced. We find ourselves returning to shoot again and again, or to look once more and and be touched by an image that has been shared.

In this spirit of seduction, I’m pleased to share with you two photography classes I’ll be teaching this month at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts.

If you’re in the area, I invite you to explore with me. For those currently living in other worlds, I look forward to meeting with you another time.

May you rise each day and look in wonder, and feel the mysteries and joys of life.

Welcome to My World: Self Expression Through Photography For Teenagers

Introduction to the Inner Path of Photography

*****

If you’re a teenager, “Welcome to My World” is an opportunity for you to honor your passion for photography, and see how it can be used to communicate what’s most important to you and about you. We’ll explore areas that will help in your expression such as:

* how to shoot what you feel and create stronger images;
* what can be learned from the photographs of other artists;
* how to present your work so it says what you truly want to “say”
* images and writing: an expanded expression
* interviewing others and shooting portraits

You’ll guide your own process through this class, making your own decision about what and how you create. By the end of class, you’ll have created a “short story” of photographs that celebrate you and your world. You are the photographer. This is YOUR world!

For more information and registration, click here.
The four day class (during winter break) runs Tuesday, February 20 to Friday, February 23, 1:00 – 3:00 PM.

* * * * *

For adults, the unique “Introduction to the Inner Path of Photography” will take you on an exploration of your own personal experience of creating and photographing.

What is it about photography that seduces us, engaging the deepest parts of our being? There is an inner process….deeply felt, rarely discussed…that deepens our lives, feeds our souls, and sends us out to shoot again and again. Through sharing photographs, discovering why we are drawn to the art, learning about resonance, contemplative practices, and the work of others such as Minor White and Mark Rothko, we’ll learn to enjoy the mystery of shooting and create photographs and lives that reflect who we are.

For more information and registration, click here.
The three-session class meets weekly starting Thursday, February 22, 6:00 – 8:00 PM.

“Sailing the Unknown”

One doesn’t discover new lands

without consenting to lose sight of the shore

for a very long time.

When our spirits first imagine them, the lure of new experiences, grand adventures, and making amazing life changes can be very compelling. Seduced and enthusiastic, we decide to take the journey.

Some of us research, plan, set the course. Others leap into the experience and create direction as events unfold.

Either way there is often the illusion that we can always come back to the familiar, the place from where we left.

But true sailing the Unknown has no guarantees. There are highs. There are lows. The winds come up and blow us to places that aren’t on the charts, and we have to correct direction, or choose a new destination – sometimes temporary, other times permanent.

Even if we return to from where we left, we are changed. We have had to draw on courage, trust. We have had to conquer fears we didn’t even know existed before we took the voyage.

Surrendering to the experience, we expand, we flex, we deepen. We become different inside, even if those who we return to see us as the same. The new people we meet on the way are unaware they are seeing a changed person, even from a month before. We are living life from a new place.

When we sail well, we allow life to pierce us, caress us, challenge, uplift us. Throughout, we retain our hearts, our core beings. We nurture and grow the beauty of our souls. And we allow our inner beauty to shine through our actions, thankful to be in this world and on this journey.

To those who find themselves in the Unknown, discovering new lands, whether by choice or circumstance:

I wish you courage, compassion, strength and love.

If you are unable to see the shore – if you feel discouragement, fear, or aloneness –

I wish you the qualities of trust, relaxation, and peace. Yours is a deep and brave quest.

May you find your inner stillness that comes with the beauty of the sail.

Heidi
