The Inner Path of Photography

We yearn for the taste of the sacred…and through our cameras discover it, the world, and ourselves.

“Photo of the Day”

I’ve been meaning to add the “Photo a Day” piece to my website…but kept putting it off because I didn’t know if I could really keep up with posting one a day. But it’s there now!

You know, I’m great at  shooting lots of images in a day, but when it comes to downloading, categorizing, editing, and making sure they’re something that you want the whole world to see…it’s time consuming and also pushes my “perfectionist” edge.

So I decided to have more fun rather than feed Ms. Perfectionist, so you may need to just bear with me if  you don’t see an image every single day. Of course, what I do post will be perfect…uh hmm.

Enjoy what comes…I know I will!

In the meantime, feel free to check my website periodically (see “Photo of the Day”…or did you already figure that out?) or if you really want to be pampered, sign up on this blog for an email whenever I post something. Go ahead, be decadent!

P.S. The “photo of the day” today is of Robynn Sanders, Houston artist and art car master and muralist and….well, go to her fabulous website and see all that she can do! She just finished a Mini-Cooper art car…hey, go to this website and vote for her too! Hers is the first car, with the robots.

And there’s a parade in the Heights tomorrow…and White Linen Nights Saturday night…

I know, I bring you so many exciting things…

Photo Performance Work tonight – July 1, Houston

I heard Ashley Hunt, the photographer, interviewed on KUHF radio yesterday and I can’t wait to see his show, “Notes on the Emptying of a City.”

Ashley went to New Orleans with a service group from California after Hurricane Katrina; he was on the team to document the aftereffects of the storm. Instead of doing the usual gallery show, he has put together a performance piece that integrates images, interviews, and perspectives about the experience.

In the radio interview, he sounded thoughtful, insightful, and clear about his work and how/why he was doing it…an aware artist with purpose.

See photographer Ashley Hunt’s website for more info about him

And click here for more information about the project and the event tonight.
Tonight, Eldorado Ballroom, 7:00 PM (2310 Elgin  Street)…sponsored by Project Row Houses, Houston.

Artist’s Inspiration: Film at the Menil Collection, Houston tonight

It’s important for me to hear/see/experience what other artists are doing….it inspires my own work, giving me new ideas to work with, or reminding me of old ideas that I’ve forgotten. So in that vein…

Tonight the Menil Collection in Houston is showing a film about Braque and Picasso…sounds wonderful…here’s their description:
“In 2007, New York¹s Pace-Wildenstein Gallery owner Arne Glimcher, and gallery director Bernice Rose (now curator of drawings at The Menil Collection), organized an exhibition (and book) that explored the neglected influence of early cinema on Picasso and Braque¹s revolutionary art movement, Cubism. At the Menil Collection, Bernice Rose will introduce the program.”

hmm, pretty dry. Here’s what they put on Facebook!

“Come to the Menil tonight for a FREE film screening of “Picasso and Braque Go to the Movies” and discover the unique impact of film on these artists and their revolutionary art movement, Cubism.”

I like that better 🙂

The Menil is a beautiful space, including the grounds, exhibits, people who run the organization….the program is free…how can you not go?
